Human Rights Policy

Introduction

Maruho Hatsujyo Kogyo aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable society by supplying safe, secure, and high-quality products to the world, based on the spirit of our corporate philosophy.

We understand that the human rights of all people involved in our business activities must be respected as we move forward with further growth while meeting the expectations of our stakeholders and continually creating new value.

To further promote efforts to respect human rights, we hereby set forth this "Maruho Hatsujyo Kogyo Human Rights Policy" (hereinafter referred to as "this policy").

Human Rights Policy

This policy is the foundation for all of our business activities as the top-level policy on human rights based on "Maruho Hatsujyo Kogyo Code of Compliance Standards".

In the process of implementing this policy, we will engage in dialogue with our stakeholders in good faith. We respect the human rights, character, and diversity of all people involved in our business, and prohibit all forms of discrimination and harassment based on differences in race, ethnicity, nationality, creed, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender self-recognition, etc. We will continue to recognize the impact on human rights throughout the value chain and evolve our efforts to respect human rights.

We respect the human rights set out in international norms*1 such as "the International Bill of Human Rights" and "the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work" of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Applicable laws and regulations

If the laws and regulations of the country or region in question differ or conflict with international human rights norms, we will comply with the laws and rules of the country or region in question and pursue methods that maximize respect for internationally recognized human rights.

Efforts

Human rights due diligence

We will strive to address human rights due diligence based on "the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights" to prevent or mitigate negative impacts on human rights.

Remedies

If it becomes clear that our business activities are causing or are contributing to human rights violations, we will take corrective and remedial measures. Even if our business activities do not cause or contribute to them, as far as our products and services are directly involved in human rights violations through business relations, we will encourage our business partners to rectify such violations.

Establishment of the Grievance Mechanism and Remedies

We will properly operate the Grievance Mechanism*2, including the whistle-blowing system, which has the function of preventing human rights violations and accessing remedies for those who suffer human rights violations. We do not condone or tolerate human rights violations, and if we receive a report or complaint that human rights are not being respected, we will properly investigate and take steps to correct the situation.

Education and Awareness

To ensure that this policy is incorporated into all business activities and is implemented effectively, we will provide training and education to all directors and employees to raise awareness.

(Notes)
  1. *1. "The International Bill of Human Rights" is a generic term for the three instruments of "the Universal Declaration of Human Rights", "the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights", and "the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights", to which "the Universal Declaration of Human Rights" is convened. "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights" sets out fundamental human rights that should be universally protected as a common standard to be achieved by all people and all countries. "ILO Declaration" sets out "the freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining", "the prohibition of forced or compulsory labor", "the effective abolition of child labor" and "the elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation" as minimum standards to be observed at work.
  2. *2. "The Grievance Mechanism" refers to a mechanism for correcting and restoring negative impacts on human rights. This includes contact points for receiving and responding to inquiries and reports on human rights from inside and outside the company.
